Heart Ranch
Has Closed

We are sorry to inform you that Heart Ranch in Hilo will be closing operations.  The co-founders are retiring and although they had hoped to transfer the non-profit to new leadership and continue at the same location, none of them were able to make it happen after many months of searching, interviewing, and meetings.
The programs at Heart Ranch are now closed as we prepare to sell the properties. We have been so blessed working with the community over the past 11 years and we will hold dear to the memories we have. God has done some amazing things through our volunteers and of course the horses. We will miss you all!  We send you all our love and hope for a blessed future.

Our Mission: To build confidence, develop leadership, and provide trauma informed care to the community

We provide a safe environment for children to grow and develop character by partnering one leader, one horse, and one child each session. This personal learning environment helps build up the child in all areas of life; physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. We recognize each child is unique and we at the ranch work to help with each individual's needs. We do all of this for every child from the age of 10 through 18, free of charge.

In 2017 we started a program for Veterans with PTSD.   We are using a method of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning for the Veterans program. Through structured activities with horses, clients as a group can reflect and discuss observations with their therapist involved. Natural horse and herd behavior become a model for human mental and emotional health.

After seeing the many successes of the Veterans Program, we decided to start working with Foster groups, troubled teen groups, and other individuals with the help of therapists. EAP is a form of experiential therapy where the participants learn about themselves and others by participating in activities with the horses. Horses in EAP are used for growth, learning, and healing. The emphasis is on “learning by doing”, rather than just talking about problems.
